Child Care Program Overview
Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. Matthew 19:14
In 1994 the Chesapeake Planning Committee gave approval for Covenant United Methodist Church to create a before and after school care program with the purpose of providing after school care to children. Over the years the staff and children have changed, but not the mission of the organization---to provide a safe, comfortable and caring environment in which children are challenged to explore their talents and maximize their mental and physical abilities.
Covenant Child Care is a non-profit child care center operated in Covenant United Methodist Church. We are licensed for 85 school-age children and maintain a staff-to-child ratio of one (1) adult to every 16 children. The Preschool maintains a staff-to-child ratio of two (2) adults to every 12 children. The facilities include separate classroom space for the Preschool, Kindergarten, homework rooms, a library, and the Big Hall. Outdoor activities take place on the premises as well as at the Chittum playground. We are located adjacent to E. W. Chittum Elementary School and most of the children in the program attend this school.
